A massive thanks to everyone who attended the Album Release at Saint Brigids Centre for the Arts on Saturday October 15th. I couldn't have asked for a better turnout. Fans and friends from all over the place came out in droves, and you helped make this a night that will live in my memories forever.
A huge thanks to all of the volunteers that night. You made it easy to take the stage with a smile on my face and an energy that was uncompromised by what was happening behind the scenes.
The event started with my bio video as I patiently waited back stage in the pitch black. I have to say, the stage was incredibly uneven back there, and tip toeing through the dark would have been pretty funny to watch. Thank my stars I didn't crash to the ground or turn my ankle....
I went right into Lost in Conversation (a song off the new album) and did my best to energize the place right away. Then an older MFT tune "How" was next on the list and I was warming up nicely. (inside scoop) the lights were so bright that I could barely see the first row of the audience, and there were more than 40 rows...But I knew you were there, and you let me feel your presence after every song.
I was lucky to have world class photographer Sean Sisk on site for the show. This is one of many images he captured that evening just to give you an idea of what kind of venue we were working with.
This was one of my favourite shows in my life, and the choice of venues was well worth it. I was particularly excited to play a rendition of Butterfly Child (written with Tara Shannon) for Jonathan Pitre. (we were selling butterfly shirts on site and a bunch of you picked one up...very cool. Jonathan is a hero of mine on so many levels.
The night went on without a hitch and I was fortunate to have great friends and band mates from My Favourite Tragedy join me for 4 songs on stage (turn, Texting Song, Stop Thinking with your Heart and Coffee Cup). Everything led up to the final song "One of the Lucky Ones" The album title track. The breath in the room was captivating for me...everyone was so quiet...ok....maybe not my nephew Colby...but I'll get him back when he gets older.
Thank you to everyone who made it out and celebrated the release with me. I also want to say a big thanks to the media that got behind the event. Scott Martin from Spotlight Ottawa, Lynn Saxberg from Ottawa Citizen, Liane Laing from CTV, Tammie Trellert and Dylan Black from Rogers Daytime and Noah Sabourin from Live 88.5. You guys truly helped make this a success.
Lots coming up on the horizon folks...stay tuned. So many more stories to come. :)
